Solicitors in Cardiff
At Youngs, our aim is to give the best legal advice to our clients and provide a service that is second to none.
We are an independent family-owned legal practice established in 1980.
We opened our office in Cardiff in 1984, since which time we have expanded the practice to provide a comprehensive and excellent service to meet the needs of our growing number of clients.
Our dedicated team of solicitors is experienced in many aspects of the law, enabling Youngs to help you with most legal matters.
What are our free legal surgeries?
Do you have an issue where you need legal advice but worry about the cost?
Do you need a quick chat about a recent legal problem you may have experienced?
We offer an informal 'drop-in' surgery on a Tuesday evening to provide initial legal advice. We can advise you if you 'have a case' without any obligation to proceed.
Our free surgery is held between 5.15 - 7.15 on Tuesday evenings.
If you would like to have an informal chat with one of our solicitors about a legal matter that may be troubling you,
The issues arising from the breakdown of any relationship can be difficult and distressing. At Youngs we have two experienced family lawyers – Mrs Toni Young and Mr John Young who are able to deal with these issues in a sensitive and practical way.

You can talk to us in confidence about these matters and we can help you to resolve all the issues involved.

Holiday disputes are becoming ever more common and we can assist where clients have been injured on holiday or have a dispute with the holiday provider whether over accommodation or other aspect of the holiday arrangements.
Over 58 million UK residents made visits abroad in 2001 and of these, over 38 million were holiday visits. Inclusive tours accounted for over 53% of the total number of holidays and air inclusive holidays, some 43%.
The package holiday therefore dominates the holiday industry.
How often have you heard a friend or relative talk of the “holiday from hell”? Accommodation may not have been as described in the holiday brochure; personal injury may have been sustained whilst on holiday. Is it possible to sue for compensation and if so, whom?
The law relating to holidays can be confusing but we can offer advice on a number of topics such as:
The Package Travel Regulations
What is a “package holiday”?
Legal Status of the Travel Brochure
Liability of Travel Agents
Air and Sea Travel
Accidents abroad
Tailor-made Holidays
Internet Sales
Motoring offences
Conveyancing
Wills, Probate & Inheritance Tax Planning
Is your Job in danger by the loss of your driving license?
Is your H.G.V. Business in jeopardy?
We specialise in motoring related offences and can help you with:
“Totting “ procedures
Disqualification – the Courts have in many cases a discretion whether or not to disqualify and/or for what length of time
We presently undertake publicly funded criminal work (Legal Aid). However, with the substantial changes due in the funding of criminal work, we will probably in the near future cease to do so.
However, because of “means-testing”, most working people will either be excluded from public funding or will have to make a major financial contribution to their legal costs.
At Youngs we are happy to agree a fixed fee at the start of a transaction or a scale fee to suit the nature and complexity of the matter.

What will HIPS mean for me?
From June 2007, it will be compulsory for every seller to provide to the purchaser a HOME INFORMATION PACK (HIP) which at present will include the title to the property, plans, local water and environmental searches and an Energy Performance Certificate.
HIPs should be prepared BY THE SELLER BEFORE THE PROPERTY IS MARKETED and we at Youngs will be able to provide clients with HIPs at this early stage of the transaction quickly and efficiently.
Our team of solicitors is experienced in advising on Wills, Trusts and Probate and offers the following services:
Making a Will
Making a Living Will
Inheritance Tax Planning
Deeds of Gift

Administration of Estates – Probate
We are able to advise on asset management during a person’s lifetime or on death and where there are issues caused by mental incapacity.
Remember that if your Estate (including the value of your house) is likely to be more than £285,000 (soon to rise to £300,000), your executors may liable to pay Inheritance Tax of 40% on the excess over that figure. For example, an Estate valued at £400,000 will attract Inheritance Tax of 40% on £115,000, which equates to £46,000.

A Notary is a qualified lawyer and member of the oldest branch of the legal profession in the UK. Notaries are appointed by the Archbishop of Canterbury and are subject to regulation by the Office of Faculties. There are approximately 850 Notaries in England and Wales.
How can a Notary help me?
The work of a notary includes the preparation and execution of legal documents for use abroad and acknowledging the authenticity of deeds and documents.
Notaries administer oaths and statutory declarations and also execute powers of attorney to buy or sell property. The work of a notary is therefore particularly important if you are buying a property abroad and you require a power of attorney to authorise a local solicitor or agent to act on your behalf.
If you would like to learn more about Notaries and what services they provide, please contact Lyndon Brain who will be happy to arrange a free consultation
